Higher Schools Certificate
Baulkham Hills Selective High School

The Business degree provided me with a sound background in all areas of business through common core subjects (finance/ commercial law/ accounting). After the first year, I was given the opportunity to select a major for in-depth knowledge. In this case, I chose accounting. This business course provided me with a basic understanding across the important aspects of business.
I elected accounting as it was characterised as the backbone of the business world. It involves the recording and reporting of the financial transactions of a business and represents the vital link between front-office flow of funds and upper management decision-making. Every business needs accountants and the array of opportunities in a range of firms, from banking to retail, mean there are a myriad of challenging and rewarding careers available.
The degree had equipped me with the knowledge, competencies and values necessary to develop critical, analytical and evaluative skills essential for an effective career in business.
The Science degree was designed by UTS to produce graduates who are prepared for a broad range of careers including: scientific practice or business and management in technical, financial, regulatory, environmental, health or biomedical oriented businesses, industries or government departments. I was provided a choice of one of the 10 specialised science majors – in my case I elected for Information Technology. Being practical, the courser offered a sub-major which tied into the business stream.
My attraction towards pursing this degree was the perception that there would be demand for graduates that are able to cross the divide between science and business. The course taught me the practical skills and knowledge that (from scanning job descriptions) that employers demand – that is both in science and business-related fields.
As Science is a very broad discipline, I was lead to believe that graduates could work in broad range of industries – including: commodity and resource trading, pharmaceutical industry, as scientists in leading consumer goods companies, health services, medical research, hospitals or environmental protection agencies.
ITIL Foundation
ITIL is the most widely adopted approach for IT Service Management in the world. It provides a practical, no-nonsense framework for identifying, planning, delivering and supporting IT services to the business.
The Foundation level is the entry level qualification which offered a general awareness of the key elements, concepts and terminology used in the ITIL service lifecycle, including the links between lifecycle stages, the processes used and their contribution to service management practices.

Certified Associate in Project Management (CaPM)
Project Management Institute is the world’s leading not-for-profit professional membership association for the project, program and portfolio management profession.
The CAPM certification is in recognition of one starting a career in project management as well as project team contributors who wish to demonstrate their project management knowledge. This certification denotes that I possesses the knowledge in the principles and terminology of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide), the standard of project management’s generally recognized good practices.

Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
Scrum is an Agile framework for completing complex projects. Scrum originally was formalized for software development projects, but it works well for any complex, innovative scope of work.
A Certified ScrumMaster helps project teams properly use Scrum, increasing the likelihood of the project’s overall success. CSM certification denotes understanding of Scrum values, practices, and applications and provide a level of knowledge and expertise above and beyond that of typical project managers. CSMs act as “servant leaders,” helping the rest of the Scrum team work together and learn the Scrum framework. CSMs also protect the team from both internal and external distractions.

Advancing Negotiation Skills
Negotiations typically follow patterns that can be managed and conflicts resolved. Through Scotwork’s materials developed with over 40 years’ experience, demonstrating that when phases of a typical negotiation are recognised, practitioners can be more effective in exchanging value for more optimal outcomes that are more sustainable over a period of time.
