Overview of my key skills
In this age of exponential pace of technological change the ability to rapidly adapt and respond to change is critical to success. The following are the key skills and traits I identify with. I have built these up through my close to decade long career.
I am well placed to grasp the opportunities the Asian Century presents- being a native Cantonese speaker, having learnt and becoming fluent in Mandarin at a young age and having completed some elementary study of Japanese during my secondary education.

I have a demonstrated tracked record of negotiating, contracting and navigating through complex commercial disputes with global application services vendors, consultancies and various agencies. I am able to articulate (what is sometimes) complex business challenges, empathizing with the commercial motivations of the parties. Being a pragmatist, I take a solution-oriented approach that, to the extent possible, seek a win-win situation for the parties involved.
Negotiation a skill that I believe starts with empathizing and understanding another parties motivations. Nothing trumps thorough preparation – laying down the context and being of a common understanding. Vendor Management is an extension of negotiation – appreciating another parties commercial motivations whilst meeting organisational needs. Conflict & dispute resolution comes down to refraining from being too emotional and laying down facts, reason and compromising to achieve mutually acceptable outcomes. Delivery focused is my innate pragmatism and desire to attain successful outcomes.

I embrace change and see opportunities in threats – but I understand not all are so amenable to change. Even with all the advances in technology, all it has done is create new channels of human to human interaction. My view is that no individual, organisation, business or could be successful in isolation; in the various roles that I have played I balance the need to consult, collaborate and socialize view points with pragmatic progress towards goals.
Communication I have proven ability to present and articulate complex subject matters and negotiate for successful outcomes. Teamwork I thrive in contributing in collaboration with others, leveraging each other’s strengths to deliver greater outcomes. Coaching others is something I enjoy – I truly believe I’ve learnt more from helping others than I’ve given! Customer focus is speaking to my desire to arrive at best achievable outcomes.

In this age of exponential pace of technological change the ability to rapidly adapt and respond to change is critical to success. I believe creativity is fundamental to what it means to be human. Most of all, I find conventional thinking boring; I firmly believe success usually doesn’t come from more of the same; and that is applied in everything that I do.
Learning agility I have proven capability to learn and adapt quickly across a broad array of subject matters. I am comfortable with operating in uncertain environments with undefined outcomes. Innovative – a skill that I believe starts with observation and awareness. Inspiration sometimes comes from the most unlikely sources ! Entrepreneurial is something I consider an extension of being innovative; this is about adapting an opportunity into a commercial gain. Digital savvy comes from my broad technology experience related to eCommerce, digital marketing and of course enterprise IT.

My believes here are grounded on simplicity: resource scarcity is a fundamental economic principle – strategy is about consciously choosing what to give up in the face of multiple seemingly viable alternatives to pursue an advantage and carrying this choice through to execution into every single future decision. I have proven myself to be adept in considering alternatives and honing in on areas of opportunity to attain success.
Process oriented is referring to my ability to document and articulate processes; there’s usually little scope for improving them unless there is a strong grasp of the inputs and value of the desired outputs. Analytical is my preferred style or approach to a problem or task. Where possible I like the room for thinking before acting. Project management is orchestrating the former and latter into the delivery of a greater outcome. Agile doesn’t mean no planning – it simply just means I focus on providing and facilitating the needs of the time at the time it is required. Leadership something that I believe starts at an individual level – there is always room to push it to the next level – it is about acting on it and convincing others around me to do the same!
